Virginia State Inspections

Jenkins Automotive Service & Tire Center offers State Inspection Services. We do not schedule visits for inspections as they are always first come first serve.

The Commonwealth of Virginia requires that vehicles registered in the state be subject to an annual safety inspection. To ensure your safety and that of other motorists, you need to submit your car, truck, or SUV every year at one of the official inspection stations set up across the state and display a valid safety inspection sticker.

If you're registering your vehicle in Virginia for the first time and it has a current valid emissions certificate from the last 12 months, you can register it without a Virginia emissions inspection.

Before we can inspect your vehicle, two things must happen:

• The entire (old) inspection sticker is removed.
• The vehicle must be able to be driven (under its own power) into the inspection lane.

Required Official Inspection Includes:

• Inspect brakes & parking brake.
• Inspect headlights.
• Inspect signal devices.
• Inspect steering & suspension.
• Inspect tires, wheels, & rims.
• Inspect mirrors.
• Inspect horn.
• Inspect windshield & vehicle glass.
• Insect wiper blades & defroster.
• Inspect exhaust system.
• Inspect license plate areas.
• Inspect air pollution control system.
• Inspect hood & area under the hood.
• Insert Driver Seat & Seat belts.
• Inspect Airbag & Airbag Readiness Light.
• Inspect fuel systems.
• Inspect floor pan.

After the inspection is complete, you’ll either get a new safety sticker, dated for the same month for the following year, or a rejection sticker on your vehicle.

If you receive a rejection sticker you will be told why you have failed and provided with a list of the failing items along with an explanation. The rejection sticker is valid for 15 days during which you are entitled to receive up to 2 re-inspections.
